THE KASBAHS OF THE SOUTH

Cross the famous Tizi N’ Tichka pass high in the Atlas Mountains with their magnificent snow topped peaks. Visit the Kasbah of Telouet and then take the old caravan road through the beautiful Ounila valley to reach the renowned UNESCO heritage site Ait Benhaddou Kasbah and Ksar.

Itinerary

​

  • Pick up at riad/hotel 8.00am

  • Travel by the Berber towns of Chouitar, Ait Ourir and Ait Barka

  • Cross the Tizi n’Tichka pass which at 2,260m is the highest mountain pass in North Africa, the peaks in winter are magnificent in their covering of snow

  • Continue across the High Atlas Mountains to the Kasbah of Telouet, which was the Kasbah el Glaoui belonging to the Pacha of Marrakech, and which stands on the old caravan route to the Sahara

  • Drive through the lush oasis of the Ounila Valley bordered by dramatic sandstone cliffs with many opportunities to stop and take photographs

  • Enjoy lunch near the Kasbah

  • Your guide will take you on a walking tour of the famous Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, Unesco World Heritage site and location for films such as Gladiator, Alexander the Great and Game of Thrones. It is a striking example of the traditional architecture of southern Morocco

  • We arrive back in Marrakech at around 6pm where we will return you to your riad/hotel
